This issue comprises two different parts. Part 1, Reprints, consists of papers and conversations which originally appeared in issues n. 2 and n. 3-4. Often cited and requested, but now out of print, they are re-printed here due to great demand by many friends and readers. The papers are arranged along the same thematic frames as in the past. The section Resistances (JEP n. 2, Fall 1995-Winter 1996) contains a text by the late Italian psychoanalyst Elvio Fachinelli (“On the Beach”) and a conversation with the late French philosopher Jean-François Lyotard (“Resistances”). The section Lacan Today allows us to also pay homage to two of our late collaborators, the French philosophers Jacques Derrida (“For the Love of Lacan”) and Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe (“On Ethics: The Antigone Case”)(JEP n.2). To these we add an interview by Sergio Benvenuto with the French psychoanalyst André Green on the Lacanian influence in France—a very polemical and lively discussion which evolved into a correspondence between Green and Benvenuto which in itself became an addendum to the conversation (JEP n. 3-4). We hope to make Reprints an ongoing feature of future issues, making available papers and conversations which were especially meaningful. Part 2, New Contributions. The section Psychoanalysis, Aesthetics, Literature contains a conversation with the Italian philosopher Mario Perniola (with Sergio Benvenuto and Cristiana Cimino); a paper on Goncharov’s hero, Oblomov, by the Russian psychoanalyst and writer Victor Mazin; and a paper on Mozart by the Slovenian philosopher Slavoj _i_ek. The section Connexions inaugurates a new feature of JEP, wherein we will publish contributions whose topics which, while not dealing directly with psychoanalysis, are nevertheless connected in some way with psychoanalytic theory and practice, and which we consider interesting and important for our readers. This issue features a study by the Italian mathematician Alessandro Figà-Talamanca on the establishment of the criterion of “impact factor” in scientific communities and institutions. Among Reviews, we highlight two books by the American psychoanalyst Alan Bass: Eric Anders’ review takes on the size and scope of a real paper on the thought of an analyst who was very influenced by Continental thought, and by Derrida’s approach in particular. |
