Philip Holzman, Robert Holt, George Klein, and Fred Schwartz decided that an annual meeting of colleagues and former students of Rapaport could have much merit. We felt such meetings would provide an occasion for sharing our thinking, research plans, and research findings. As a result, the first meetings of the Rapaport Study Group were held on June 13 and 14, 1963, at the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge, with approximately thirty people attending. The meetings consisted in three informal presentations followed by discussion and terminated with a business meeting. Those presenting were: Philip Holzman, "Studies on Self-Confrontation"; Lester Luborsky, "Looking and Remembering"; Peter H. Wolff, "Comparative Studies on the Development of Infants." At the business meeting it was decided to meet again in 1964 at Riggs and to extend the meetings for three days. The dates decided upon were June 19, 20, and 21, 1964. Philip Holzman, Robert Holt, Merton Gill, and Fred Schwartz were elected to draw up a membership list and to make preparations for the next meetings. You name has been suggested for membership and we would like to know if you would be interested in joining the group. The size of the group is small enough so that we are not hampered by problems of programming; our meetings, unlike the larger conventions, are to be kept informal. The procedure will be as last year with two or three of our group telling the rest of us what they have being doing, tinkering with, or thinking about during the last year or two. In order to help the committee draw up an agenda, and to keep the group informed of what everyone is doing, we are asking each member to send us a brief description of their current interest and investigative activities. These summaries will be duplicated and distributed to the members before this year's meetings. We are also asking members to indicate when they would be interested in reporting some aspect of their work. If you are interested in joining the group would you please fill out the enclosed form and return it to Fred Schwartz at the Austen Riggs Center (Fred Schwartz will act as corresponding secretary). As time is running short, please reply by March 15, 1964. An agenda, membership list, and travel and accommodations informations for this year's meetings will be sent to you as soon as we have received all replies.
