Annual Meeting Program - June 3-5, 2011 Letter to Members (see the 2011 Program)
February, 2011 Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to invite you to the 48th Annual Meeting of the Rapaport-Klein Study Group which will be held on June 3-5, 2011 at the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. We think you will be very pleased with this year's program. On Friday evening, we are delighted to have Keith Oatley who will present, "Fiction as consciousness: Promptings towards changes of personality and the bypassing of defenses." The schedule for Saturday is slightly different than the past few years. In response to having several people interested and available to present to the group and our wish to make room for one more presentation, Doris and I decided to forgo, for just this year, setting aside time for the informal sharing of our recent work. Instead, Saturday morning will open with a presentation by Richard Chefetz entitled, "Some clinical experience with dissociative disorders: Toward building a better metaphor for subjective experience influenced by dissociative processes." This will be followed by a presentation by Horst Kächele's entitled, "Advances and limitations of single case research." Following lunch, Beatrice Beebe and Frank Lachmann will present, "The origins of disorganized attachment: A microanalysis of 4-month mother-infant interaction." There will be ample time for continued discussion of our Saturday presentations at the end of the day. Cocktails at the Lippmann's completes our Saturday. On Sunday, following our business meeting, Irwin Hoffman, Gary Walls and C. Seth Warren will address the commentaries offered by David Wolitzky, Morris Eagle and Jeremy Safran at last year's meeting regarding Irwin's 2009 JAPA paper, "Doublethinking our way to 'scientific' legitimacy: The desiccation of human experience." We are again grateful to Paolo Migone for helping us maintain our electronic presence. Our website remains www.psychomedia.it/rapaport-klein to review the history of every meeting since the beginning of our group including many of the papers presented at our meetings. The website for this year's program is www.psychomedia.it/rapaport-klein/june2011.htm which contains additional information on all presentations. If there are any changes in your e-mail address, please notify Paolo at Migone@unipr.it. Again we expect that some of the papers presented this year will be posted. Any suggestions for improving our website are welcome and should also be sent to Paolo. We need to remind you that dues and fees for guests need to be paid as soon as possible. Space is limited and we request no more than one guest per member. Kindly call Doris Silverman (212-799-1577) or Craig Piers (413-637-8077) as soon as possible to let us know if you are inviting a guest. Overnight accommodations should be made soon since, as you know, it is busy time of the year in the Berkshires. Members that would care to stay at the Red Lion Inn should call 413-298-5545 before May 12 and refer to "Group Reservation # 177508: Rapaport-Klein Rooms." We look forward to seeing you once again and enjoying our weekend together. Sincerely, Paul Lippmann and Doris Silverman, Co-Chairs Web Editor: Paolo Migone.
